Objects from Indigenous and World Cultures Working Group Triennial Programme 2023-2026

Objects from Indigenous and World Cultures Working Group Triennial Programme 2023-2026

Themes for investigation

  • Collaboration with communities, community access to collections and inclusiveness in conservation decision-making.
  • Transgenerational inclusivity, multiplicity of stories from one community; engage in objects preservation with diaspora, displaced and migrant population
  • Education, especially with respect to empowering communities to preserve their own objects and places.
  • Training and education for inclusivity and sustainability in conservation practices
  • Local systems of knowledge and their roles in conservation.

Proposed Projects

  • round tables/workshops with one or two short presentations (5 minutes) and moderated open discussion via Zoom, each on one of the above themes. We are aiming at 2 workshops/year.
  • updating resources such as: biocide bibliography, previous newsletters and uploading them to the ICOM-CC website on our Working Group page.
  • creating new resources: consultations/collaboration with communities protocols, ethical texts, consolidants reviews.
  • creation of a platform for indigenous conservators, within our Group and across groups. This could be a project to be submitted for a Solidarity project funding.
  • continue running the Group’s Facebook page which is very popular.
  • -potential creation of a LinkedIn page in the coming years, pending discussions with Directory Board.
  • prepare the Group’s session for the next ICOM-CC Triennial Conference: review contributions to this group, work with authors to strengthen texts and provide grading to the Selection Committee, at both abstract stage and full paper/poster stage.
