 Stephanie DE ROEMER- United Kingdom

Joining the ICOM-CC as a conservation student, I found it to be a welcoming community of diverse and inspiring people which encouraged and inspired me to become engaged in a network of professionals on an international level, as Working Group Coordinator for Sculpture, Polychromy, and Architectural Decorations (2014 – 2020) and later as a member on the Directory Board, first as liaison and currently as Vice Chair .

If elected, I will apply my substantial experience in the conservation of archaeological, anthropological and modern and contemporary art collections combined with my knowledge and communication skills to the administration of ICOM’s and ICOM CONSERVATION strategic vision. In the role as a member of the Directory Board I will support the many ICOM CONSERVATION Working Groups in the outreach and facilitation of their Triennial programs, networking and collaboration across and for the broad and diverse global conservation community.

Taking responsibility in a position of leadership, I will advocate for conservation philosophy and practice to be recognized as essential and fundamental to a methodology of sustainable development and I will lobby for the ICOM CONSERVATION Committee and its membership to be a voice and active participant in the International Council of Museums’ strategic planning and round table discussions to inspire communities of practice to care for our shared cultural heritage and sustain this human ability into the future.

Sana DURRANI - Pakistan

I am Sana Durrani. a heritage conservation professional, art restorer, and museum curator from Lahore, Pakistan. My experience in these fields has motivated me to apply for the position of Directory Board of ICOM-CC. My active involvement with ICOM and ICOM-CC includes chairing and organising International Virtual Conferences on Museums, presenting a poster at the ICOM-CC Triennial Conference in Valencia (2023), presenting a paper at the ICR Annual Conference in Taiwan (2023), and presenting at the ASPAC 2026 Annual Meeting in Malaysia. I have also contributed as an ICOM representative by supporting award endorsements.

At the Lahore Museum I focused on strengthening institutional capacity through conservation led projects, curatorial approaches, and public engagement strategies. It gave me a deep understanding of conservation challenges and the responsibility of safeguarding cultural heritage in Pakistan. Celebrating International Museum Day 2024 for Lahore Museum was my key initiative which not only supported greater engagement in museum education but also encouraged wider participation in annual museum activities afterwards which increased ICOM membership growth at the national level.

If selected, I hope to actively contribute to ICOM-CC’s mission through collaborative projects focused on capacity building, sustainability, and participatory museum strategies in long-term planning. This role would also help to strengthen trust in the heritage sector in Pakistan, where international representation often adds weight to new ideas, conservation method and conservation approaches. In this way, it would not only enhance my local contribution, but also help encourage heritage institutions in Pakistan to adopt more sustainable, participatory, and forward-looking practices with greater commitment.

Ida-Christine HOVMAND - Denmark

I trained as an archaeological conservator in Cardiff, and since 1998, I have been the manager of the conservation unit at Langelands Museum, Denmark, where I am also responsible for conservation of all archaeological finds and supervision of students.

I have been involved with the Wet Organic Archaeological Materials Working Group (WOAM) since 1996, and have served as Assistant Coordinator and for the last two Triennia have had the pleasure to be the Coordinator of this Group.  During my time as a Coordinator, I have (with the help of amazing Assistant Coordinators and hosts) arranged two hybrid Interim Meetings and published the proceedings on the ICOM-CONSERVATION Online Publication platform. Being a Coordinator has also given me insight into the business of the Directory Board, its role within ICOM, the work it undertakes with other ICOM International Committees, and especially its interaction with the Working Groups.

Based on this experience, I put my name forward as a candidate for the Directory Board for the next triennium, 2026-2029. To me, it is important that the Directory Board supports the diversity of the Working Groups and helps to facilitate the exchange of ideas of practicing conservators and conservation scientists on a global level. I would advocate that we not only continuously listen to and learn from each other but also communicate our field of expertise through collaborations with other professionals within the museum world, as well as the general public. It would be a privilege to contribute to the work of ICOM-CONSERVATION and to the Directory Board as well.

Anna LAGANÀ - United States of America

I am Principal Research Specialist at the Getty Conservation Institute, where I lead the long-term project Preservation of Plastics, dedicated to advancing the conservation of plastic heritage objects. My career spans research, practice, and teaching across international institutions, including academic and heritage organizations.

I have been an ICOM-CC member for many years and have played an active role within the organization. I have served the Modern Materials and Contemporary Art Working Group first as Assistant Coordinator and subsequently as Coordinator for two consecutive terms. This long-term involvement has been a highly valuable experience and has given me a deep understanding of the organization and its role within the broader ICOM infrastructure and the international conservation field.

I am standing for the Directory Board because I strongly believe in ICOM-CC’s mission, and I would like to contribute at a strategic level to its continued development. Through my career and tenure as ICOM-CC coordinator, I have learned the importance of international exchange, professional networks, and collaborative work in advancing both research and practice in conservation.

I am particularly interested in supporting inclusive participation across regions and generations, strengthening the organization’s role as a platform for knowledge exchange, supporting the work of the Working Groups, exploring new avenues for advocacy, and contributing to ICOM-CC’s ability to respond to the evolving needs of the conservation field.

I would be honored to bring my experience, outreach skills, and long-standing engagement with ICOM-CC to the Directory Board, and to contribute to the organization’s continued development and impact.

Maggi LOUBSER - South Africa

After a three-year term on the directory board, I have a much better understanding of the nuts and bolts of the organisation. The 2024 Solidarity Project: Community-Led Training – Establishing a Foundation for Heritage Conservation in Africa fulfilled my first wish to expand conservation training across the African continent. During this project, relationships were forged that have led to collaborations, and we hope to strengthen these ties and continue knitting a community of conservators across the continent.

More so than ever, I want to help bring the voice of the African conservator to the table and fight for ways to enable better representation. We seriously considered bidding for the ICOM-CC 2029 triennial conference, but in the process, we realised some of the hurdles. If I am elected again, I would like to work with the ICOM-CC Directory Board and my colleagues across the continent to find ways to give global south conservators greater access to ICOM.

Inside the ICOM-CC Board, I would volunteer to assist in the role of Liaison, because from my viewpoint, better and more two-way communication between the working groups and the Directory Board will enable everybody to have a more holistic view of the functioning of ICOM-CC, and in this way, we can benefit from each other’s strengths.

The structures are there for a truly global conservation community; we just need to activate them!

Polytimi LOUKOPOULOU - Greece

I have been a member of the International Council of Museums for approximately 20 years and have served three terms as a board member of the ICOM Greece. I have been associated with the ICOM Conservation Glass and Ceramics Working Group since 1999, during the 12th Triennial meeting in Lyon. The Triennium 2023-2026 I stepped into the role of the Coordinator for the Working Group.

I am a qualified Conservator of Antiquities and Works of Art (MPhil, PhD) with over thirty years of experience in Objects Conservation, encompassing the full range of my academic training and professional specialization. My interests and activities also include object analysis and the standardization in conservation practice. Concurrently, I have taught conservation of glass and ceramics for over 15 years in Greece and abroad, as well as in short courses and seminars.

Currently, I am working at the Byzantine and Christian Museum as Head of the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, and Archaeometry.

I actively promote public awareness of conservation and protection of Cultural Heritage. In the context of International, European and National celebrations, I have contributed to the organization of events aimed at raising public awareness about the vital role of conservation and promoting the conservation profession to the public.

I would like to contribute to the organization’s future endeavours by promoting initiatives that foster member engagement, strengthen institutional cohesion, enhance collaboration with ICOM and its Committees and encouragemore active participation of members within the museum community.

Ogechukwu Elizabeth OKPALANOZIE - Nigeria

My name is Ogechukwu Elizabeth Okpalanozie, Ph. D. I am a conservator and an Assistant Director at National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Nigeria.  My professional work focuses on the conservation and research of museum collections while promoting responsible stewardship of cultural heritage.

My professional practice involves the use of preventive conservation and conservation treatments to ensure the long-term preservation of museum objects. With the growing advocacy for sustainability in conservation, I have also conducted research on indigenous conservation methods and how they can be used in synergy with conventional conservation approaches to ensure effective preservation.

I have been a member of ICOM-CC for over thirteen years and served as an Assistant Coordinator, Preventive Conservation Working Group. I have also participated actively in ICOM-CC activities such as ICOM-CC conferences, sessions in ICOM conferences and ICOM-CC Solidarity Projects. I am motivated to serve on the Directory Board because I believe strongly in the important role that ICOM-CC plays in advancing conservation practice, promoting ethical stewardship of cultural heritage, fostering global collaboration and supporting the exchange of knowledge across regions.

I am particularly interested in supporting initiatives that promote professional exchange, strengthen dialogue between regions, and increase the inclusion of underrepresented areas within the global conservation community. If elected to the Directory Board, I will work to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing while broadening participation across diverse regions. I would be honoured to contribute to the continued development of ICOM-CC and its mission to advance conservation practice worldwide.

Satish PANDEY - India

I am standing for a second term on the ICOM-CC Directory Board, having served as Vice Chair for the 2023–2026 triennium.

My familiarity with how the Committee operates spans both working group and board levels. As Coordinator of the Education and Training in Conservation Working Group from 2017 to 2020, I understood the Committee from the ground up — the demands placed on Coordinators and the gaps in support. Moving to the Directory Board in 2023 gave me a strategic understanding on how and where the board can make a difference. As Vice Chair during the 2023–2026 triennium, my principal concern has been to transform international conservation discourse by ensuring diverse regional knowledge is not just included but foundational. I am seeking a second term on the Directory Board to build on that momentum and drive lasting institutional change.

Professionally, as Professor and Head of Art Conservation at the Indian Institute of Heritage, New Delhi, I bring the practical insights of leading heritage preservation education. This position keeps me directly connected to the practical realities of heritage preservation across one of the world's most culturally rich regions.

During this triennium, I have been actively involved in several outreach, capacity-building, and cross-committee initiatives, including solidarity projects, support for Working Groups, and collaborative engagements with other ICOM bodies across Asia and beyond.  A second term would allow me to leverage established networks and institutional knowledge to advance a more equitable, globally connected ICOM-CC.

Flavia PERUGINI - United States of America

I am honored to submit my candidacy for the ICOM-CC Directory Board for the 2026–2029 triennium. I have been an active member of ICOM-CC for many years and have served as Assistant Coordinator of the Modern Materials and Contemporary Art Working Group for the last two triennia. In this role, I have supported the activities of the Working Group, encouraged communication and collaboration among members, and helped advance dialogue on the conservation of modern and contemporary cultural heritage. Serving in this position has given me valuable insight into the importance of international professional exchange and the role that working groups play in building strong connections within ICOM-CC.

My professional experience as a conservator has involved the conservation of art of different origins and periods, as well as research, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within the conservation community. Through my work in museums and international conservation initiatives, I have developed a strong commitment to interdisciplinary cooperation and to the exchange of ideas that strengthen conservation practice. I have also seen how conservation benefits from collaboration across institutions, disciplines, and cultural perspectives.

I am particularly interested in capacity building and strengthening, as well as sustainability and the impact of climate change on cultural heritage. I am also interested in developing collaborations with non-Western and Indigenous cultures and have been involved in conversations about changing the narrative toward a more inclusive cultural heritage environment.

If elected, I would be committed to supporting the mission of ICOM-CC, strengthening collaboration across working groups, and contributing to an inclusive, sustainable, and internationally engaged conservation community.

Deepakshi SHARMA - India

I am Dr. Deepakshi Sharma, a conservation professional and heritage specialist from India with over fourteen years of experience in conservation, archives, museums, and cultural heritage management. I hold a Doctorate in Conservation from the National Museum Institute, New Delhi, and currently serve as Archivist and Conservator at Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. My work involves archival preservation, conservation of institutional heritage, documentation, research, and interpretation of railway and industrial heritage associated with one of India’s most significant infrastructure initiatives.

My academic interests particularly focus on conservation ethics, history of conservation, industrial heritage, and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural heritage preservation.

My long-standing association with ICOM-CC includes serving first as Assistant Coordinator of the Working Group on Theory, History and Ethics of Conservation and currently as Coordinator of the Working Group on Sculpture, Polychromy, and Architectural Decorations. These roles have provided valuable opportunities to engage with conservation professionals across diverse regions and specialisations, encouraging dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative participation within the international conservation community.

As a candidate for the Directory Board, I aspire to contribute towards building a more connected, inclusive, and forward-looking international conservation community. I am particularly committed to strengthening cross-cultural dialogue, amplifying voices from underrepresented regions, and creating greater opportunities for emerging professionals to actively engage within ICOM-CC. Through the experience in conservation practice, research, and professional coordination, I hope to contribute actively towards shaping a more diverse, accessible, and resilient future for the international conservation community.

Artyom SILKIN - Russian Federation

I represent a large museum-reserve that includes a UNESCO World Heritage site – the Assumption Cathedral and Monastery on the Island-Town of
Sviyazhsk. Our institution houses several permanent exhibitions: the History Museum, the Art Gallery, the Museum of Archaeological Wooden Materials (from wet organic archeological layers), and others. The museum’s collection is extremely diverse in terms of materials. Additionally, we are
responsible for monitoring the condition of the medieval frescoes in the Cathedral and the historical cultural landscape.

Our conservation department employs various specialists. This range illustrates the broad conservation issues we face daily – from preserving archaeological finds of all kinds and other museum objects (including books and paintings) to landscape conservation. The museum-reserve has repeatedly organized conferences and workshops on conservation. Until recently, we were an active participant in WOAM-ICOM-CC events. This year, we are co-organizing an international conference in Kazan on the conservation of archaeological objects from wet organic layers. We also collaborate extensively with several African and Central Asian countries and see a pressing need to strengthen cooperation in knowledge exchange, methods, and educational programs. Through my practical and organizational work inconservation, I would be pleased to contribute to the development of broader international cooperation aimed at preserving human heritage.

Kaoru SUEMORI - Japan

SUEMORI, an Associate Professor at the National Museum of Ethnology in Japan, has been engaged in empirical conservation research and practice grounded in the principles of preventive conservation for more than ten years. SUEMORI has also participated in several capacity-building programs for conservators in Japan, Egypt, and other countries. Through these experiences, SUEMORI has frequently drawn on the work of ICOM-CC and has come to recognize its essential role as a global hub for the preservation of museum collections.

At the same time, SUEMORI has observed that contributions from regions outside Europe and North America remain limited. To help amplify these voices, promote the international dissemination of conservation efforts, and strengthen professional connections across regions, SUEMORI has decided to stand as a candidate for the ICOM-CC Directory Board.

Looking ahead, SUEMORI hopes to one day host an ICOM-CC conference in Japan, further deepening global collaboration in the field of conservation.
