The International Committee for Conservation (ICOM-CC) hosted conservation professionals, museum specialists, curators, educators, and cultural heritage advocates taking part in a dynamic programme of events at the 27th ICOM General Conference in Dubai November 2025!

From traditional restoration techniques to disaster preparedness and community-led initiatives, ICOM-CC's sessions brought together global voices, cutting-edge practices, and immersive hands-on experiences. 

Session A
Preserving Traditional Conservation and Restoration Knowledge
- 12 November 2025 | In partnership with ICOM-Japan and the Association for Conservation of National Treasures (ACNT)
Explored Japan’s unique approach to safeguarding intangible cultural knowledge. Presentations from master conservators and specialists about age-old techniques used in the care of paintings, calligraphy, and Buddhist sculpture. Included panel discussion and Q&A.

Session B
Disaster Preparedness for Museums
-12 November 2025 | In collaboration with INTERCOM, ICMS, DRMC, and ICTOP
Building up a resilience toolkit! This training session covered everything from risk assessment to salvaging damaged collections. Exposure to leadership strategies, emergency planning techniques, and training teams for real-world scenarios.

Session C
Community-Led Heritage Conservation in Africa
- 13 November 2025 | Featuring ICOM-CC’s groundbreaking Solidarity Project
Addessed how communities across Africa shape their own conservation futures. This session presented toolkits, videos, and panel discussions spotlighting local innovation, regional collaboration, and culturally grounded solutions.

International Committee (IC) Day (in-person only)
Collection Care and Risk Management
-15 November 2025 | ICOM-CC in partnership with ICCROM-Sharjah
A full day of learning and networking in Sharjah. The morning featured a keynote and expert panel at ICCROM-Sharjah, and the afternoon offered rotating workshops and conservation lab tours at the Sharjah Archaeological Museum.
