We are pleased to announce an upcoming online joint event organized in cooperation with the ICOM-CC Documentation Working Group and the Wood, Furniture, and Lacquer Working Group, entitled:
“Collaborative Approaches to Documentation and Decision-Making in the Conservation of Wooden Artifacts.”
This unique gathering will explore the critical role of decision-making in the conservation of wooden artifacts, highlighting how collaborative approaches enhance understanding, transparency, and sustainability in conservation practice. Through the presentation of diverse case studies, the event will demonstrate how systematic documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and analytical research contribute to informed, ethical, and effective decision-making in the conservation of wooden heritage.
We are honored to welcome Dr. Malgorzata Sawicki, Professional Consultant in Gilded Wood Conservation, former Head of Frames Conservation, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, presenting: “Decision-Making in Gilded Wood Conservation: To Re-gild, In-gild, or In-paint?”
Joining her is Dr. Maniyarasan R, Faculty of Architecture at the CARE School of Architecture, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India, who will discuss “3D Photogrammetry of Wooden Museum Objects from JVM Folklore Museum, Mysore, as a Tool for Informed Conservation.”
Additionally, Dr. Anna Giulia De Marco, Egyptologist, Medjehu Project - University of Jaén, will share her research through: “Multidisciplinary Research on Ancient Egyptian Wooden Artifacts: Insights from the Medjehu Project.”
Finally, Abi Tudor, Furniture conservator, the National Trust’s Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio, UK, will present: “The Complexities of Decision-Making in Furniture Conservation: Case Studies in Practice.”
Whether you are a professional, an emerging conservator, or simply passionate about cultural heritage, this event promises valuable insights and engaging discussions on decision-making in the conservation of wooden artifacts.
