The Values of Rock Art and Current Challenges

With support from the ICOM-CC Fund, the ICOM-CC Mural, Stone and Rock Art Working Group is organizing a 2-hour round-table discussion, The Values of Rock Art in Africa, during the 25thCongress of Archaeological Association of Nigeria (AAN).

Presenters include:

  • Dr. Emmanuel Ndiema, Senior Research Scientist and Head of the Department of Earth Sciences, National Museums of Kenya and one of the foremost rock art experts in East Africa
  • Terry Little, Senior Lecturer, Ahmadu Bello University and Advisor to TARA – Trust for African Rock Art
  • Dr. Abu Edet, Researcher and Conservator at the University of Calabar and expert on the Bakor monoliths of Cross River State, Nigeria
  • Dikko Idris, Deputy Director and Curator at the Birnin Kudu Rock Art Interpretation Centre, Nigeria
  • Abdullahi Abdulkadir, Senior Conservator at the Birnin Kudu Rock Art Interpretation Centre, Nigeria (and Murals, Stone and Rock Art Working Group Assistant Coordinator)
  • Otobong Enefiok Akpan, doctoral candidate, Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria.

The conference is being hosted by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.
