Call for expressions of interest in hosting Metal 2016
The International Council of Museums Committee for Conservation Metal Working Group would like to call for expressions of interest in hosting Metal 2016.
The interim meetings are a very large undertaking and should not be underestimated. Not only does the physical meeting need organising with all associated backup but the papers need to be prepared, reviewed and published digitally in time for the meeting. All of these functions need to be performed by the host and coordinated with the co-odinators of the MWG. Traditionally the WG meetings alternate between Europe and Non-European hosts. 2016 is currently slated as a "non-european" event but I would suggest that any group interested in hosting it apply. Metal 2019 is currently expected to be held in Europe.
There will be an opportunity to put on a 5 minute presentation to the attendees of Metal 2013 in Edinburgh. Pdf presentations will be posted to the International Council of Museums Committee for Conservation Metal Working Group web site for members to examine. A more formal expression of interest will need to be submitted to the WorkingGroup Co-ordinators by December 30th 2013.
A vote will be held in January 2014 amongst members of the working group but the final decision rests with the co-ordinators as some desirable applicants may not be able to meet the criteria required by ICOM-CC
Once a host has been chosen a contract will be arranged and signed by the host and the chair of ICOM-CC. The conference will be subject to the new rules for interim conferences currently being drawn up by ICOM-CC.
Please contact the co-ordinator of the Working group metal David Hallam at zzdhalla@gmail.com if you have any questions.
