ICOM-CC Strategic Plan 2014 – 2017


Executive Summary

ICOM-CC is one of ICOM’s 31 International Committees. With its 21 Working Groups, ICOM-CC offers conservators, scientists, curators and other professionals the opportunity to collaborate, study and promote the conservation and analysis of culturally and historically significant works. Members participate in specialised international meetings and committee's activities.

Mission and Vision

ICOM-CC aims to promote the conservation of culturally and historically significant works and to further the goals of the conservation profession.

Objective 1

Continue to increase opportunities to communicate both amongst its own members and with external heritage professionals.

Tasks and activities

  • Develop an approach where ICOM-CC Working Groups are involved in exploring greater involvement with each other and with ICOM International Committees.
  • Organise the ICOM-CC session at the ICOM General Conference, Milan, Italy, 4th to 8th July 2016, on the Theme: ‘Museums and Cultural Landscapes’.
  • Organise the 18th Triennial Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, in September 2017 on the Theme: Linking Past and Future.
  • Produce high quality peer-reviewed preprints for the 18th Triennial Conference in 2017.
  • Select a venue for the 19th Triennial Conference in 2020.

Objective 2

Develop closer links with other conservation organisations to better pool resources as well as to improve services for ICOM-CC members.

Tasks and activities

  • Investigate collaborative opportunities with IIC, including options for a joint conference in 2020.
  • Explore means of cooperation with ICCROM, ICOMOS and other conservation organisations.
  • Develop closer links with other national/international associations especially as an effective mechanism for two-way exchange of conservation information.

Objective 3

Promote ICOM-CC and the conservation profession and increase opportunities for cross-disciplinary communication.

Tasks and activities

  • Develop and disseminate promotional materials both about ICOM-CC, conservation and conservation training programs.
  • Provide a dynamic website with constantly updated contents and access through alternative devices.
  • Continue to work on the environmental guidelines and seek to discuss them with museum managers, stakeholders and other parties involved.
  • Develop an approach where ICOM-CC Working Groups are involved in exploring greater public outreach.
  • Be aware of, and when possible, include ICOM resolutions issued during the Triennial General Conferences and General Assemblies in the ICOM-CC Working Group programmes and other ICOM-CC activities.
  • Communicate the process of joining ICOM-CC through ICOM for the wider ICOM membership.
  • Seek to expand ICOM-CC membership base outside Western Europe and North America.

Objective 4

Optimise administrative tasks for managing assets.

Tasks and activities

  • Organise the ICOM-CC archives in a sustainable way and establish guidelines on ICOM-CC’s archiving policy being in accordance with French policy.
  • Develop and support a compilation and publication of the history of the first fifty years of ICOM-CC.
